Melanie Johnson

I was Born and Raised here in Fairbanks, AK. I love singing, dancing, adventuring, and spending time with my family and friends. I started Ballroom Dancing when I was 13. I graduated from Lathrop HighSchool in 2008 after four wonderful years on the Lathrop Ballroom Dance Team. With them, I went to three National Competitions, including the BYU National Dancesport championships in 2006 and 2008, and the 2005 US Open Swing Dance championships in Anaheim California. At Lathrop, I most notably served my team as Captain my Senior Year, and competed in the fundraiser “Dancing with the Fairbanks Stars” in 2007 and 2008, dancing as the Pro with DJ stars Kevin Lynch and Rocky Barnette. Since I graduated, I’ve studied Ballroom at both Brigham Young University, Idaho (where I preformed with the Collegiate Ballroom Dance Team), and with Arthur Murray International Studios in Livermore, California. All the medals exams I have taken I have passed with honors, and in Idaho took 1st place in my class competitions. I’m currently a Student at UAF, and nearly fnnished with the Medical Assisting Program. After I graduate, I have dreams of continuing my dance studies at BYU or one of the Studios in California. My dance philosophy is that if it isn’t fun, its not worth it, and the more you know, the more fun it gets. I may not be Ginger Rogers, but I do know a thing or two about Ballroom Dance and I would love nothing more than to share my knowledge and passion with others.
