Fairbanks casual is the theme at lessons with the Ballroom Dance Club of Fairbanks. Anything that is comfortable and allows only freedom of movement will work just fine. You might find it easier to wear the shoes that you’re going to use when you dance. Sneakers are not generally recommended and are sometimes difficult to move in on the hardwood floors. We’ve found for men that bowling shoes work remarkably well and are somewhat inexpensive. Check with the local bowling alley. Men’s dance shoes are also available online. Ladies have it a little more challenging.
A few of the online stores we’ve seen dancers use over the years are:
No, most students in our group classes primarily come single. We rotate. Our club highly recommends rotation in classes, allowing each dancer the opportunity to grow and learn from the variety of students in the class. Instructors are available to students within the rotation.
Dancing can be quite easy to learn. It will take time to learn, like most new things, but our instructors make learning easy and fun. A steady approach with practice will produce results in a short period.
Our students range in age from 16 to 86! Moving to a beat and coordinating with your partner are things that are easily learned at any age. Dancing is something that many people choose to begin later in life. Anyone who is able to walk can dance.
It really depends on the individual. Everyone can work at their own pace, and at the studio we will try to accommodate your every need.
Dancing can be relatively inexpensive. Join just a practice party. Come to social dances. Check out our 40 Below Ball in January. As with any hobby or sport, there are many different levels of participation. Of course, more serious dancers could invest as much as they choose.
Everyone, including our professional instructors, started from the beginning! Each time a new student begins their lessons, we remember what our first lessons were like. Our students are constantly telling us how many people compliment their dancing when out at a function. The club is a safe and supportive environment in which to learn to dance, and there is absolutely no reason to feel self-conscious.
That is entirely up to you. The average student takes one lesson on a dance style, while others might sign up for two different dance styles. More than two lessons for a beginner may become overwhelming.
Yes, our instructors are very talented, qualified, and most of all friendly and helpful.
Students have told us that besides learning to dance, they gain self-confidence, heightened self-esteem, improved posture, friendships, a place to socialize, and many other benefits. Each person finds that dancing has helped them in different, yet similar ways.
