Rulon Jensen
I was born and raised in Los Angeles but I had no dance experience prior to taking my first ballroom dance class at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1991. Of course, the only reason I took the class was to impress a girl I liked. However, I soon found out I really enjoyed it and started taking as many classes as I could. In 1992 I was fortunate enough to make the BYU formation dance team. I danced with the BYU Ballroom Dance Company until 1994. Some of the accomplishments my partners and I achieved (that’s one thing I like about ballroom dance is that nothing is ever attained alone) are: Medals exams with honors in bronze level social, bronze and silver level Latin, and bronze and silver level modern ballroom; Medals exams with high honors in silver and gold level social dance; Nevada Star Ball championship in Pre-Novice and Novice modern ballroom categories; and finalist in several other competitions in California and Utah. I have also had the privilege to teach beginning and intermediate level social dance at BYU and in Alaska and have choreographed dance routines for dance festivals as well as a few routines for Fairbanks Dancing with the Stars competitions. I am most proud in helping instill the love of dance in my family, whom I am most thankful for.
I currently reside in Fairbanks, Alaska with my wife, LeaAnne, stepdaughters Robin and Melanie, daughter, Elyse, and son, Liam. I also have a married stepdaughter, Amanda, residing in Provo, Utah with her husband and their baby daughter.
