Shiny Shoes Dance Productions has been in operations for seven (7) years under the direction of Ed Salazar, owner and instructor. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Ed has well over twenty years of theatrical and entertainment experience, beginning as a volunteer at the Harbor Playhouse, and soon becoming an IATSE (International Association of Theatrical and Stage Employees) professional. Approximately fifteen (15) years ago, Ed stepped onto the dance floor as a means of overcoming boredom and soon discovered that the years of studying music, combined with his theatrical training, allowed him to firmly grasp the concepts of “Bar-Room” dancing. In time, it was clear that the disciplines of Ballroom Dancing combined with the “Bar-Room” experience held long term benefits. After studying Ballroom dance for years, at Del Mar College, Brigham Young University, and with personal coaches, Shiny Shoes Dance was born. Blending the two disciplines (Bar-Room and Ballroom) together, Shiny Shoes Dance focuses on “Social Ballroom” dancing. The Shiny Shoes Dance goal is to “Make Social Ballroom Happen!”
At Shiny Shoes Dance, our specialty is “Social Dancing,” which we define as “partner dancing for fun and entertainment.” While the American Style Ballroom Dance Curriculum is at the core of our program, our focus is on lead and follow technique, as well as the art of entertaining our dance partner. At Shiny Shoes Dance, we begin with the rigid and exacting science of ballroom dance. However, we do our best to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Mike began dancing at a young age, after first being exposed to Salsa music at parties his family attended. He found himself drawn to salsa and moving to its beats. By the age of 11, Mike was practicing dance on his own for a minimum of an hour a day. He was determined to perfect all the moves that he saw his older brother do with his friends. (He says he was jealous!)
By the time Mike was 14, he began experimenting with other forms of dance. He joined a Jazz/Ballet team and eventually got the team to be interested in dancing salsa as well. At age 16, he enrolled in ballroom dancing classes. His instructor soon recognized his talent as a dancer and teacher and made him the main instructor for salsa group lessons at the studio. Mike’s training in jazz, ballet and ballroom gave him the opportunity to further develop his own unique style of dancing and teaching salsa, while staying true to the roots of Latin dance.
Mike has performed at the N.Y. and L.A. Salsa Congresses and now has his own dance company, which performs at local and regional events. He also works with groups preparing for The Salsa Congress.
Since 2008 Mike is a proud owner of his own dance studio, Omni Salsa.
Mike tells his students “If you can walk, you can dance”. Mike takes pride in helping people who never thought they could dance to move on the dance floor with the best of them.
Visiting us from Miami, Florida, Jerry has been teaching for more than 30 years, most of which has been in the Anchorage area. His background started with Country and Western at the Pines Club, where he taught for more than 20 years. He now has included Swing World and Latin to his teaching. He currently spends his time in the central Florida area when he is not in Alaska, teaching and dancing five to six nights a week.
Deb is a member of the Anchorage dance community, where she has developed a love of social dance, with a special emphasis on West Coast Swing, Country Western 2 Step, and Night Club 2 Step.
Jerry and Deb have been dance partners and teachers for more than five years in the Anchorage area. They have enjoyed sharing their passion of dance. Deb and Jerry have had the pleasure of teaching two workshops for the Fairbanks dancers and look forward to sharing more with us!
