West Coast Swing Flash Mob
Attention all West Coast Swing Dancers: Flash Mob Coming to Fairbanks!
This is the latest thing on the West Coast Swing dance scene. It is a choreographed WCS dance routine done to a particular song, and performed as a “spontaneous” event in public places (that is, pre-planned but not announced in advance). Show up to class, learn the routine, and then perform it with us! There will be one optional performance in June, and another in July.
Instruction will be 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 19th at the Artisan’s Courtyard. Classes will be taught by local instructors and dance aficionados David Leslie and Margo Matthews. WCS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (NO WCS BEGINNERS). $15 for adults, $5 for Students (university students included).
There will also be an hour-long practice on June 23rd, also at the Artisans Courtyard. Please make sure to bring a clean pair of shoes.
Times and places of performances to be announced at the class.
All money earned will go to benefit Angry Young and Poor 2011, which will be held July 9th at the Ester Community Park. AYP is a free, all day music event with dancing, art, crafts, food, and more. AYP has been building community in Fairbanks since 2001 and (despite it’s humorous and ironic name) has an excellent reputation in this town for hosting a fun, family-friendly, safe event for people of all ages. All funds raised by AYP this year will be given to the Literacy Council of Alaska!
